The Last Dodo

Writing Club Exercise #3
July 2, 2013

Prompt:  Write a description of the life of Paul's ugly bird statue.  Too bad I don't have a photo to attach!  Dewey was one funky bird.

The Last Dodo

Dewey Dodo dodged the bullet.  The last of his kind he had himself immortalized in porcelain.  Little did he know that his final resting point would be atop a plated glass tabletop located next to a sledgehammer and forge in the home of Mr. Smight, the Smithy.  One day when Mr. Smight struck a smidge too hard upon some stiff steel, a small piece was sent into flight just beyond Dewey Dodo's dated silica seat.  The glass shattered and Dewey Dodo flew up over the cuckoo's nest to land in the cooling bath avoiding imminent death by smash.  Mr. Smight lifted him over the smelt with sweaty palms and set him safely upon a dolomite shelf where for many years Dewey Dodo dwelt amid his comrades, dust laden, until one day when Mr.Smight set dull eyes upon Dewey's dusty frame, whereupon he brought Dewey Dodo down again.
