Summer Heat

May 31, 2018

Summer Heat

Yellow like saffron and just as dear.
Honey hot summer days,
Sweat trickling down the nape of your neck,
To soak your collar.
Bright vibrancy warming all the way through your bones.
Blood pulsing to the skin,
To wick up cool breath of wind.
Press.
Flush and blush red like a zinnia,
In vivid pigment turning its face to the sun,
Petals all a fray,
Sway, drop, swoon, lay.
Sing sweet upon the wind,
Hearts a flutter.
Hum little hummingbird wings.
Come to kiss the skin.
Nectar running dry,
As the sapping sunken sky.
Rain always comes again,
It’s just no one really knows when.
Weather channels calling for a high.
Dappled green the summer cloak,
As long as heavens provide a frequent soak.
